shadcn MCP in Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code
One MCP endpoint, three configurations, one flow that brings real components into your editor instead of letting the model invent them. What to expect.
Key points
- An MCP for components exposes search, details and install as tools, not as prompts.
- Configuration differs by client: endpoint, transport and server name.
- The model is still the decision maker: the MCP gives it verified records, not the truth.
An MCP for components solves one precise problem: the model should not invent a button, it should be able to search a real button, read its licence and install it. The EneUI endpoint is https://ui.eneawork.it/mcp, with HTTP transport.
What an MCP for components exposes
- Search by category, framework and text.
- Details of a record: files, dependencies, licence.
- Install command or registry item.
- Pages and guides as context, not as an endless prompt.
Claude Code
Add the server with the CLI command, then restart the session. The client must list the server among the available tools before you ask for a component.
claude mcp add --transport http eneui https://ui.eneawork.it/mcp
Cursor
Open the MCP configuration and add the server. Use a short, stable name: you will need it in prompts.
{
"mcpServers": {
"eneui": {
"url": "https://ui.eneawork.it/mcp"
}
}
}
VS Code
VS Code reads MCP servers from the workspace or user configuration. The endpoint is the same; only the file it lives in changes.
{
"servers": {
"eneui": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://ui.eneawork.it/mcp"
}
}
}
Prompts that work
Do not ask «make me a dashboard». Ask «find a dashboard block with a table and a sidebar, show me the licence and dependencies, then install the version that uses Recharts». A prompt with a verifiable criterion produces a verifiable result.

The /mcp page holds the endpoint and the current configuration; /agents explains what an agent can do with the catalogue.
Frequently asked questions
What is an MCP for components?
A server that exposes component search, details and install as machine-readable tools. The model calls them instead of inventing code.
Do I need an account to use the MCP?
Discovery is open; installation can require a registry token, as with the CLI.
Do Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code use the same configuration?
The endpoint is the same, but the file format and the transport depend on the client. Check your editor documentation.
Does the MCP see my code?
No, not automatically. The server exposes the catalogue; the client decides what to send in the context.
Can I use the MCP with a local model?
Yes, if the client supports MCP and the model has enough context to use the tools. Quality depends on the client, not on the endpoint.
